I think this is a scratch-built box, made by a ship’s crew, to house miniature navigation instruments, as a memento for a retiring ship’s officer. All the instruments function. The box is in need of a little TLC.
Our Ship’s captain is now navigating Celestial waters, so this box is looking for a new appropriate home.
The set comprises:-
- A polished wooden box, brass hinges and lid clasp, & brass strap bindings (9” x 5” x 3”)
- A brass compass, (2.5” x 2.5” x 3/8”)
- A brass single draw telescope, with wooden barrel & lens cover.
(4” closed – 6 ¼” extended)
A miniature brass sextant.
