This superb example of scales by DEGRAVE of LONDON comes from a 300-year-old+ company with a formidable reputation in the accurate science of weights.
Standing 23 inches high, a beam balance set of scales, with a lever to lower the scales to neutralise swing, made of solid brass, all in excellent condition, and still working perfectly.
c.1767 Charles De Grave went into business making weights and balances.
1806 Charles and Mary’s son Edward was apprenticed to the business
1840 Advertisement. M. De Grave and Son announce that all the scales in Post Offices in the UK are made by them. Of 59 St Martin’s-le-Grand.
